Tips to visit Padova in a day
The tourist attractions of the near Padova, the famous "City of the three withouts", are very numerous. They say they have a "lawn without grass", a "saint without a name" and a "coffee shop without doors". Here is the explanation: the lawn without grass is the magnificent Prato della Valle, a splendid square among the largest in Italy which was once a marsh, the unnamed saint is actually Saint Antonio da Padova, originally from Lisbon, who just goes by “the Saint”, while the coffee shop without doors refers to the famous Caffè Pedrocchi.
If you have only one day to visit this beautiful centre, we suggest you go from the charming Chapel of the Scrovegni frescoed by Giotto, then go on a stroll through the adjacent gardens of the Roman Arena. Other places of interest are the Duomo of Padova, Palazzo Bò, the ancient university seat, Palazzo della Ragione, the other characteristic squares of the city as well as the historic Caffè Pedrocchi, mentioned earlier, where intellectuals and academics of the nineteenth century met to discuss a still united Italy. Finally, for shopping, we recommend via San Fermo with its fashionable shops.
